In my last newsletter, I explored a few research papers discussing how food can affect your mood.
Now, since we have a better and clearer understanding of the fact that some foods can actually be helpful in improving our moods, let’s find out some of these foods.
Leafy greens
Magnesium is one important mineral to help boost serotonin receptors, these are receptors that trigger the release of your happy hormones. Leafy greens are a power house of magnesium. Besides this, green leafy vegetables like Kale, Spinach, Dill, Amaranth, Radish leaves etc are also a very rich source of folic acid, another important mineral to help trigger happy receptors.
Fermented foods
Pickles, curds, kimchi, tempeh, kefir, kombucha, and sauerkraut are all examples of fermented foods that may boost gut health and happiness.
Fermentation allows living bacteria to flourish in meals, allowing them to transform carbohydrates into alcohol and acids. Probiotics are thus generated during this procedure. These living microorganisms help good bacteria develop in your gut and raise serotonin levels.
Berries
Berries contain more antioxidants than any other popular fruit or vegetable, providing a plethora of brain-boosting advantages.
Berries help stabilize mood, boost memory, and safeguard the brain from ageing, owing to a kind of antioxidant called flavonoids.
Berries are high in antioxidants and phenolic compounds, both of which help to fight oxidative stress.
Pulses and lentils
Beans and lentils are abundant in fibre and plant-based proteins, as well as a variety of other nutrients that make you feel happy. They're high in B vitamins, which boost mood by raising levels of neurotransmitters including dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), which are all vital for mood regulation.
They're also high in selenium, magnesium, zinc, and non-heme iron, all of which can help you feel better.
A plant-based diet may be the solution to the issue of what food products might make individuals happy or assist them to improve their moods. It is simple, eat more plants!
Trust this helps,
