I will talk about how grains helps with weight loss in the end of the newsletter, so read till the end!
Sourdough bread is a type of bread that is made with a fermented starter instead of commercial yeast.
It is often considered to be healthier than other types of bread due to its lower glycemic index, which means it is less likely to spike your blood sugar levels.
Here are three delicious vegan recipes that feature sourdough bread:
Grilled avocado and tomato sandwich: Toast two slices of sourdough bread until they are crispy. Spread one slice with mashed avocado and the other with hummus.
Top the avocado slice with sliced tomato and lettuce, and the hummus slice with sliced cucumber and sprouts. Sandwich the two slices together and grill in a pan until the bread is toasty and the vegetables are warm.Sourdough bread pudding: Cut stale sourdough bread into small cubes and place them in a greased baking dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of almond milk, 1/4 cup of maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of cinnamon.
Pour the mixture over the bread cubes and let them soak for 15 minutes. Bake the bread pudding at 350°F for 25-30 minutes, or until it is golden brown and set. Serve with your choice of fruit and nuts.
Sourdough bread pizza: Spread tomato sauce over a slice of sourdough bread and top with sliced vegetables, such as bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
Sprinkle with vegan cheese and bake at 400°F for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy. Skip the vegan cheese for some cashew sour cream if in a mood for a healthier option!
In addition to being tasty, eating grains like sourdough bread can be a helpful part of a weight loss plan. This is literally how my clients eat to help achieve their fittest selves!
A recent study published in the journal Nutrition Reviews found that consuming whole grains is associated with a number of health benefits, including a reduced risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers.
The study analyzed data from over 100 previous research papers and found that whole grain intake was consistently associated with a lower risk of these conditions.
One of the mechanisms by which whole grains may provide these benefits is through their high fiber content.
Whole grains are rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber, which can help to lower cholesterol, regulate blood sugar levels, and promote regular bowel movements. They are also a good source of antioxidants, which can help to protect against oxidative stress and inflammation.
I hope these vegan recipes with sourdough bread have inspired you to get creative in the kitchen. Happy cooking!
