Top Five Reasons To NOT Step On The Scale As Your 2022 Goal.
Plus, what your goals should be instead...
It’s the beginning of 2022 and of course everyone is suddenly worried about their weight. But here is why you should not set a weight goal this year…
Often, people assign labels to themselves the instant they hop on the scale, regardless of what the scale says, whether they achieve or fail, and thereby feeling worse about themselves as an individual.
Here is why the scale might not always be telling the truth…
Weight alone does not mean good health.
You could be in your ideal weight range but still be struggling with an eating disorder, disturbed sleep, chronic diseases and even mental health disorders.
This year, why not pick one other lifestyle aspect that needs fixing and set an intention to correct yourself there.
Weight fluctuates constantly.
The human body is a marvel of engineering. Your weight can vary significantly over the course of a 24 to 48 hour period, by up to five to six pounds, due to everything your body consumes and dissolves throughout the clock.
Now while checking the weighing scale constantly is motivating for some people, it can really feel daunting for others. Aim to go by your pictures and how your clothes feel rather than a number on the scale.
Here is my personal example:
Weight does not define you.
Our value has nothing to do with how much we weigh, as opposed to what our thin-obsessed society teaches us. Furthermore, when you put in a lot of effort into your exercises and food, you may anticipate more than your body is capable of, which can result in stress.
Getting rid of the scale is one approach to regain that control and remind yourself that your weight does not determine your worth. Instead of getting tangled up in the numbers game, be proud of what you have actually achieved.
The scale affects your mental health.
Putting too much emphasis on weight might backfire and lead to elevates stress hormones. Often times, your stress hormones, cortisol, affects your gut health and this intern leads to insulin resistance. A result of which, is weight gain. So stressing about weight can actually cause more weight gain itself.
Sure have a way to track your progress, but why not let this scale be a health goal, like being able to complete 1 km faster than you did it a month back or being able to do two extra pull ups that a couple of weeks before.
Body trust is hindered by the scale
Do you consider your weight to be a reference to what you ‘should’ or ‘shouldn't’ eat? You are blocking off your body's intrinsic intelligence when you do this. Because of this unseen pressure, you may acquire certain strange eating habits or problems. Rather, without weighing yourself, re-learn to trust your body with food.
Actionable tip of the day
Simply remove the scale from the picture for a bit to observe whether your mental state changes. When you get rid of your discouragement, you can discover that you're more driven.
Remember that your road to a healthier lifestyle is a journey, not a race, and that your body composition, not your weight, is the most important factor to consider. I am in no way saying not to prioritise fitness and wellness. but rather, simply changes your goals that are not related to the scale.
Trust this helps,
thanks, this post relieved me of a lot of stress.
